How to make sure home office works for you

A home office is ideal for mothers. It definitely gives her the flexibility she needs to handle a lot of responsibilities. Aside from her work, she has to make sure that all the household chores are done accordingly. She has to make purchasing decisions not only for the grocery but also for major things like the bedroom furniture.

Mothers have their hands full. A home office will give her a time for her job. But is it really a good idea? There are several advantages of having your office at home and there are also relative disadvantages. But don’t worry; it is possible to work around these drawbacks. Here are some of the disadvantages and tips on how you can work around them.

  1. Unable to get the office work done – this is one of the common problems that mothers encounter. They get so caught up with the work in the house that they have less time spent doing their work in the office. And once in front of the computer, they can’t help but browse for kids toys or look for a recipe to prepare for dinner. To avoid this from happening, schedule your tasks. Indicate what time you will start working in your office and for how long. Include your schedule for doing the chores as well and the time for your breaks.  Of course it has to be flexible, but you should always consider your schedule to make sure the work in the office and at home are done.
  2. You tend to become workaholic. This is another problem that families encounter when mothers start working at home. They do all the work, which means making the report and ordering that bedroom furniture for kids. Filing the documents and doing the laundry. This is good, but it also compromises the time she spends with her family. She fails to read her baby a story because she still needs to wash the dishes and after that she has to go back in the office and verify some last minute orders. You can avoid this from happening by making sure that you start your office work on time and ending it on time. Remember that your office and the household chores are not the only things you need to attend to. If you are scheduled to get in the office at eight in the morning, then start working at eight. When you’re in the office work and don’t waste time looking for another Kids Furniture since you have already done that. Don’t stay longer in the office either. When you are done with the day’s work, fix your things and join your family at home.
  3. It becomes too exhausting for mothers. The reason why this becomes a burden is because mothers don’t use their breaks to take a break. After taking their lunch, they look for chores to do at home instead of relaxing with their kids. And instead of taking a coffee break, they spend it arranging their husbands’ closet or cleaning and arranging the kids Building Blocks. Take your break. You owe it to yourself. If you want to clean things, schedule it some other time and don’t do it when you are supposed to be relaxing.
