As a parent you often wonder what are the boundaries of your role in helping your child develop his skills and talents.
For one, you absolutely would like to tear him away from playing rough games with his neighbour playmates to engage him in some quiet time reading the encyclopedia to the point that you’re tempted to flood his Childrens Home Desks with tons of informative books just to make him do so. Not only that, you’re also dying to enrol him to all the art workshops and instrument playing lessons you hear of.
But then, you step back and hesitate because you know forcing your kid to study or learn something will only make him feel like learning is a chore, which is the exact opposite of your intention in the first place.
So where do you stand as a parent when it comes to helping your child develop his skills and potential?
First off, it is your role to get to know your child. What are his interests? What are the activities he likes to do while he’s on his Childrens Desks? What is the field that he appears to be good at while enjoying doing it at the same time? Take time to know where your kid is good at and what he likes doing most.
However, if it seems like your kid is engaged in very few activities that it is hard for you to put a finger on which exactly is his talent and passion, it is also your duty as parent to help him discover it for himself.
Engage him in many different activities that will allow him to explore his many possible potentials. Create diverse and multi-faceted activities in his Children Desks. Give him crossword puzzles to fill, math problems to solve, logic games to figure out, musical instruments to explore, model kits to build and art projects to create. But don’t do all these in one day. Allow your kid to explore each activity at his own pacing.
After being absorbed into numerous games and activities for a period of time, evaluate your kid’s work and attitude towards each activities. See what it is he has done best, what made him stay in his KidKraft Avalon Desk the longest and then talk to him about which of these he enjoyed doing the most.
The subsequent step to take is to enhance your kid’s potential with his approval of course. If he looks like he’s a Picasso in the making but he does not want anything to do with paints or art materials and would rather go outside and play tag with his friends, there is no use forcing him. What you can do instead is to make learning fun while making him realize for himself how important it is for him to develop his artistic capabilities.
One good idea is to give him a Desk Furniture Kid that will inspire him to hone his talent. The art activity desk by Guidecraft for example will provide a fun artistic venue for your little Van Gogh where he can explore his artistic talent. No kid with budding artistry would be able to resist the charm of this children’s desk. In no time you’d find your kid absorbed in accomplishing artistic feats and masterpieces.
It is also smart to enrol him in workshops and lessons that will enrich his potentials even more. It is imperative however to be wise in your selection. Choose workshops that are fun and interesting that would never make your kid feel like learning is an errand.
As a parent, it is your responsibility to give what’s best for your kid. However, you must always take into account your kid’s feelings. Never force him to do something he does not like. Instead, think of other ways you can do to lure him and encourage him to do activities that you’re positively sure will be the best for your child. |
